Welcome Foolish Mortals

My name is Carrie Vines and I'm a little obsessed with Disney's Haunted Mansion. I'm blessed with a husband who supports my obsession and even encourages it. My kids, well...they barely tolerate it. But they're young and resilient. They'll recover.

My husband, Sam, and I have always celebrated Halloween with a little more enthusiasm than anyone else on the block. When we decided to start an annual haunt, we both looked to the Haunted Mansion for inspiration. It was then we discovered the collector's circuit and our calling. While searching the web for Haunted Mansion decorating ideas, I stumbled across Doombuggies.com and found my refuge on the internet.  I've met some of my closest friends on doombuggies, and spend my time there hearing other collector's stories, seeing their collections and the creative ways in which they displayed their pieces, sharing our defeats and celebrating our victories on ebay when we finally procured that one 'must-have' piece. If you haven't checked out doombuggies, go check it out. NOW. And then come back here and share your favorite Haunted Mansion collectible or tattoo or shrine to Master Gracey. You're among friends here.

Thanks for stopping by and just as in the ride, I will conclude here with Little Leota's haunting words:

"Hurry back… Hurry back! Be sure to bring your death certificate, if you decide to join us. Make final arrangements now. We've been  'dying’ to have you…”

Haunted Mansion Queue 1978

Another friday has come and gone with no Fanmade Friday post.  Oh, dear blog, I’m sorry for neglecting you.  I have some wonderful guests lined up for Fanmade Friday, but I haven’t had a chance to get their stories finished.  Blame it on my lack of organization, or the fact that I’m now homeschooling my 2 kids and no longer have a life that’s mine.  But I do love you, blog, so I will try really hard to have a new Fanmade Friday up next week. And thank you, friends, for being so patient with me.

Because a post is always better with a picture, here is a (blurry) picture of me, age 5, standing in the queue at the Haunted Mansion during my first trip to Disneyland.  I love that despite the quality of the picture, you can still see my Cheshire grin.  I was so excited to go on this ride.  And that bouquet of balloons I’m holding? They were given to me by one of the 3 Little Pigs when I told him I was at Disneyland for my birthday.  In my mind, that bouquet of balloons was huge; it practically carried me away like Mary Poppins’ umbrella!  And then I see this picture and laugh because memory can play funny tricks on us sometimes.  I do know that I cried terribly when my mother told me I had to let them go because they wouldn’t fit into our Nova when it was time to go home.  carriemansion'78Ok, die hard Haunted Mansion fans, who can list what’s different about the queue line today based on what you see in this picture?

October 9, 2009 - 2:36 pm Carrie - that's such a great idea! Although, I was a lot cuter then... lol You seem to be the one getting the shots of me at the Haunted Mansion lately, I think you should be the one to take the pic! Let me know next time you're in our neck of the woods! :)

October 9, 2009 - 2:16 pm steve - That's an awesome picture. Next time you're at the park, you have to get a bunch of balloons and take another shot in the same spot. There's a Flickr group called Me Then, Me Now that this would be perfect for.
