Welcome Foolish Mortals

My name is Carrie Vines and I'm a little obsessed with Disney's Haunted Mansion. I'm blessed with a husband who supports my obsession and even encourages it. My kids, well...they barely tolerate it. But they're young and resilient. They'll recover.

My husband, Sam, and I have always celebrated Halloween with a little more enthusiasm than anyone else on the block. When we decided to start an annual haunt, we both looked to the Haunted Mansion for inspiration. It was then we discovered the collector's circuit and our calling. While searching the web for Haunted Mansion decorating ideas, I stumbled across Doombuggies.com and found my refuge on the internet.  I've met some of my closest friends on doombuggies, and spend my time there hearing other collector's stories, seeing their collections and the creative ways in which they displayed their pieces, sharing our defeats and celebrating our victories on ebay when we finally procured that one 'must-have' piece. If you haven't checked out doombuggies, go check it out. NOW. And then come back here and share your favorite Haunted Mansion collectible or tattoo or shrine to Master Gracey. You're among friends here.

Thanks for stopping by and just as in the ride, I will conclude here with Little Leota's haunting words:

"Hurry back… Hurry back! Be sure to bring your death certificate, if you decide to join us. Make final arrangements now. We've been  'dying’ to have you…”

Haunted Mansion Lenticular Pin Collection

When Disneyland was celebrating its 50th Anniversary, the Disney Catalog came out with some wicked cool Haunted Mansion items, including this limited edition pin collection.

Now, I’m not a pin collector, but lenticulars have a very high ranking in this house, so the fact that these were pins quickly became outranked by their cool lenticular status! Honestly, I’m very impressed with these mini-lents….

Now I was all excited to use a fancy-schmancy mouse roll over effect to show you the lenticular pins, but after spending a day trying to figure out why the code wouldn’t work, I learned that WordPress hosted blogs don’t allow mouse roll over effects. Boo! (If I’m incorrect, Internet, pray tell!)

Here’s the Screaming Pop-Up Ghost

Knight on Horseback

Here is my favorite pin. Madame Leota, of course! “Creepies, crawlies….”

Medusa…she’s pretty cool, too!

and finally…the Hat Box Ghost with Crown

Jody Daily, Disney Artist, talked with DoomBuggies.com about the pin set:
“The hatbox ghost actually would have 4 stages (head, eyes, nothing, and eyes again fading back to the head). Leota has three different expressions (closed eyes & mouth, open eyes/closed mouth, open eyes and mouth). The other three pins have only two stages, but on the screaming “pop-up” head portrait we tried to line up their eyes exactly so that the eyes will stay the same. GEEKY!”

These little suckers were difficult to photograph, so I apologize for the quality of the images. Video would be nice, and perhaps I’ll update this post with a video soon. Thanks to my daughter for loaning me her Webkins bat for displaying!
